Queens may stay home One of the coolest regions in the worldaccording to a new study, but when it comes to the “most dreamed-of” spots of the five boroughs, a new StreetEasy report finds that a few others reign supreme.

StreetEasy, which bills itself as the city’s leading real estate marketplace, used search data to determine which neighborhoods in the three boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens were searched the most in 2022.

We also looked at the most searched regions from 2017 to 2022 to assess trends. What makes them so desirable? Location, walkability, subway access, parks, good restaurants and, of course, available apartment space—it should all be there.

Below is a breakdown of the topline survey results by borough, according to StreetEasy.

As StreetEasy puts it, “If you want to live in bohemian chic in the West Village or Greenwich Village, live near Chelsea’s High Line, own a classic Soho loft, get the keys to Gramercy Park. Who wouldn’t want to get one?”

West Village has topped StreetEasy’s Manhattan’s most searched list for the last five years in a row, and Greenwich Village has been a perennial favourite. With median rents of $4,895 and $4,500, respectively, and median asking prices of $1,497,000 and $1,595,000, respectively, they are expensive to rent or buy.

Here are the most searched Manhattan neighborhoods in 2022 and their respective medians:

Manhattan may be a corner of your dream landscape, but with some neighborhoods above Manhattan’s prices, it has a special allure that combines old-world charm with modern charm. That’s what StreetEasy found. Brooklyn is most famous for its gorgeous ‘Brownstone Belt’ where neighborhoods like Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and Fort Greene are located. And it’s no surprise that they’re some of the most coveted neighborhoods in the ward.

But none of these four will be number one in 2022. StreetEasy found that honor belongs to Williamsburg. These waterfront skyscrapers are in consistently high demand. Greenpoint also entered the top five for the first time this year.

When it comes to five-year trends, no Brooklyn neighborhood has been searched on that platform more than Williamsburg, which took the top spot from Park Slope between 2018 and 2019. It’s the borough median, but there’s absolutely a deal.

As StreetEasy economist Kenny Lee points out, a typical Brooklyn starter home with at least one bedroom costs more square footage per dollar than Manhattan, making it attractive to young professionals. There is definitely a diamond in the rough.

According to StreetEasy, New York has many popular neighborhoods, most of which are more affordable than hotspots in Brooklyn or Manhattan. The most searched neighborhoods on that platform have a rent less than his $3,000 and a median asking price less than $1 million. At least for now. You can also find great deals in Long Island City and Astoria.

These two regions have topped the most searched lists over the past five years, with Sunnyside and Forest Hills showing solid staying power. Jackson Heights was once on the list. If you’re looking for an affordable and busy area, it might be a good place to start your search. Ridgewood is expensive, Hey, that’s probably really cool.
