Fort Collins-based The Group Inc. announced on Monday, August 1, that it has acquired Steamboat Springs Colorado Group Realty, which represents 29% of the local market in 2021.
Brendon Wells, President of The Group Inc./Group Financial Partners, said: “We have a long history of mutual respect and mutual respect in doing business.”
The group actually offered a model that the 12 founders of Colorado Group Realty followed when they founded the company in 1995. Wells did not disclose how much Colorado Group Realty sold for. However, the acquisition was unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of Colorado Group Realty.
“Colorado Group Realty actually reached out to The Group and one of the founding members, Larry Kendall, to essentially build a business model,” recalls Wells. “They wanted to do things differently, and I think it proved successful for both of us.”
The sale marks the beginning of Colorado Group Realty’s transition to The Group. Wells said the level of professionalism and service provided by the Steamboat-based real estate firm will remain the same, but the name will change. He emphasized that the company continues to be a strong partner in the community and runs charities that support local nonprofits.
The companies are industry leaders in their respective markets, with combined sales of nearly $3.3 billion in 2021, Colorado Group Realty with more than $850 million and The Group with more than $2.4 billion, according to the news release. brought in $50 million.
70 agents and 14 support staff from Colorado Group Realty join The Group. The Steamboat and Hayden office management team includes Regional Sales Manager Josh Miller and Managing Broker Shelly Stanford. Miller will succeed Steve Goldman, former CEO of Colorado Group Realty.
“This is great and together with The Group we are stronger,” Goldman said. “We created our business model from what they were doing. We were always very tight. We’re really like comrades.”
Previously Vacasa’s General Manager, Mr. Miller will assume the role of Regional Sales Manager, leading the Steamboat office.
“This gave us the opportunity to lead Steamboat, to be committed to the community, to the team here at Steamboat, and to continue to provide a high level of service,” said Miller.
He also emphasized that the level of professionalism and service will continue, but with the acquisition, brokerage clients will have access to expanded services, including plans to offer ownership and mortgage services on Steamboat. I added that it will be possible.
Wells said Colorado Group Realty and The Group are like-minded real estate firms and both are affiliates of one of the world’s leading real estate firms, a global network of independent brokers. Both also follow the “ninja selling” selling philosophy created by Kendall, who co-founded the group in 1976.
“Every year, we get contacted multiple times from all the big national franchises that aren’t here asking if they’re interested in selling,” Goldman said. “This was the first group that really got us interested because we are culturally and ethically very sensitive about how we talk to clients, our commission plans, and the language we use internally. Because it matches. It matches perfectly.”
