A beachfront home in the Bahamas is on the market for $13.5 million.

The approximately 8,000-square-foot, six-bedroom home sits on 1.5 acres at Abaco Club in Winding Bay, says listing agent and sales director Christy Hull.

The seller is Mark Birkbeck, who with his wife Linda Birkbeck founded the Scotland-based department store House of Brewer. The Birkbecks were not available for comment, but their son, Patrick Birkbeck, said he purchased the property in 2008 for about $3 million and had the house ready to move in by the summer of 2010. It is said that

According to his son, the Birkbeck family no longer live together and the sole owner is Mark Birkbeck.

Hull says the property has about 200 feet of private beach and oceanfront, and the home is designed to resemble a traditional Bahamian home. It has an open concept floor plan, high vaulted ceilings and a wraparound deck. Outside there are wooden steps leading to the swimming pool and beach. Abaco Club members also have access to amenities such as golf courses, restaurants, a yacht club, spa and fitness center.

According to Patrick Birkbeck, the Birkbecks decided to spend a three-week vacation at the Abaco Club as part of their trial membership. His parents never planned to buy the house, but they liked the area so much that he decided to buy the land in just three days. They spent several years building a house to use as a vacation home.

Mr Birkbeck has decided to sell his Bahamas home so he can spend more time with his family in Scotland, his son said.

Mr. Hull said Mr. Birkbeck’s house will be the most expensive property at the Abaco Club. In the Bahamas, where FTX founder Sam Bankman Freed lived

was based before last year’s arresta 40-acre private island is on the market for $100 million. The Wall Street Journal reported.
