Congress Builders is the general contractor for this property, which is bounded by 49th Avenue to the north, 50th Avenue to the south, and 5th Avenue to the east.
Recent photos show excavators and piling machines scattered across the sprawling 76,000-square-foot site that once housed a two-story warehouse demolished over the past year. The new building at 2-33 50th Street is constructed of reinforced concrete and has 111 enclosed parking spaces, a basement level, and a 30-foot-long backyard. The building should start rising above street level in early 2023 and be tallest by mid-year.
The main photo rendering shows the northeast corner of the building at the intersection of 49th and 5th Avenues. The façade is constructed of brick and surrounds a grid of recessed square windows with black grilles underneath. The eastern half of the structure is clad in red brick, while the western half transitions into a gray stone envelope. Mushing incorporates a number of setbacks over six floors, each with its own landscaped terrace. The ground level features floor-to-ceiling windows, outdoor seating, lighting fixtures and a new tree-lined avenue for retail space.
A full list of amenities was not disclosed, but the building has an outdoor roof terrace. The closest subway to the site is his No. 7 local line at the East Vernon Boulevard station at the corner of 50th Avenue and Vernon Boulevard. Center Boulevard to the west provides access to Long Island City’s waterfront and views of Midtown Manhattan’s skyline across the East River.
The completion date for 2-33 50th Street is scheduled for September 2024, as stated by the Building Commission.
