Demolition Continues on Harte & Company Warehouse at 14 Clay Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Demolition is underway at the Harte & Company warehouse at 14 Clay Street. green point, brooklynDeveloped by Dupont Street 1, LLC, the project will transform a 91-year-old derelict building that has been vacant since 2004 into up to 400,000 square feet of residential components and 200 parking spaces, community facilities, and grocery store. United Interior Services is a real estate general contractor bounded by Clay Street to the north, Dupont Street to the south and Franklin Street to the west.

The site is surrounded by sidewalk scaffolding as demolition work continues. Most of his one-story building, which spanned his 10 lots across the eastern half of the lot, has already been demolished and cleared, leaving only the tall part at the western end.

Four-story towers line Franklin Street and are topped by rusting factory machinery. Colorful graffiti, reliefs and motifs are sprayed onto different parts of the brick exterior walls.

The main building in the northwest corner features an art modern design with rounded corners constructed of clay brick and square glass panels, with a Harte & Company sign above the ground floor. The building is he one of the last remaining industrial structures in a neighborhood that has seen an incredible surge of new development in recent years.

No renderings or details of the new structure have been made public. The closest subway to the site is the local G train at the nearby Greenpoint Avenue station to the southeast. The Greenpoint Waterfront is just a short walk west behind the row of new skyscrapers that line Commercial and West Streets.

YIMBY has identified a completion date for the demolition, which is slated for this fall.
