Cher Wants $85 Million for Her Venice-Inspired Malibu Home

Singer and actress Cher lists her longtime home in Malibu, California for $85 million.

Built in 1999, the Italian Renaissance-style property sits on about 1.7 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, said Robert Kass, listing agent for Hilton & Hyland. The main residence spans approximately 13,200 square feet and has vaulted windows and doors that open onto the ocean. It also has a separate gatehouse, an infinity pool and a tennis court, Kass said.

The “Believe” singer paid $2.95 million for the property in 1989, records show. She listed the property for her $45 million in 2009, according to Realtor.com. (

The home, which took nearly five years to build, was inspired by Venice, Italy, Cher said in an email.

Cher said she often entertained at home, hosting “intimate dinners in the family dining room” and “tented parties in the courtyard and pool area.”

“My Rinpoche has come to hold a prayer meeting with many friends,” she said.

Located on the Pacific Coast Highway, the gated property has a driveway lined with 40 palm trees and a courtyard with a Moorish fountain. It has seven bedrooms and a gatehouse that serves as a guest house. Cass said the master bedroom in the main building contains a meditation room and his two closets, one of which doubles as his panic room. The primary his bathroom is designed like a hammam with Turkish wooden screens.

The lower level of the home has an indoor and outdoor gym and theater. Cher also has a temperature-controlled wig room with nearly 100 hairpieces, according to her 2002 book, The Cher Scrapbook.

According to Kass, the home’s style is dramatic, with premium finishes, stone and hardware. He said the property is “iconic.” “Everybody knows that house. It’s at the end of Bluff, so there’s no one on the right.”
